a chaos gracefully beyond your imagination

holding you closer

this morning,

your body gave up

its restless dance.

arms wrapped around me,

as if hanging on

to a solid branch

suspended above

a chaos gracefully

beyond your imagination.

I become strong and immovable

the longer we hold this pose,

painfully aware that even here

in this house of worship

we are not safe

from misguided fear.

your cheek meets my own,

and in that intimate magnetism

your quiet breaths

remind me

that this moment,

where silent tears

fall like rain,

is the purest gift I can imagine,

and the only fitting response

is to courageously face

the certainty of our disappearance

while rooted in the steadfastness

of a love that would hold you

like this forever

if you would let me.
